5 Reasons HEAT Fans should be excited about James Ennis

2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot

Many of the hardcore Heat fans have already heard his name, but for those of you that haven’t…..remember it. The Heat acquired the rights for James Ennis from the Hawks in the 2013 draft after he was picked with the 50th overall. Not having enough cap space to sign him last year the Heat allowed Ennis to play overseas where he took Australia’s NBL by storm. As a rookie he averaged 21.2 points and finished the league MVP voting in 3rd place as he lead the Perth Wildcats to an NBL Title. With LeBron gone back to Cleveland, this provides a chance for James Ennis to shine, and here are some things Heat fans should be excited about.

1) Special Athleticism

Everyone knows that the Heat needed a youth injection and James Ennis might be what the doctor ordered. At 6’7″  he’s a hustle player with a great motor and an ability to play above the rim. Take a look at this steal and monster alley-oop from Napier that Ennis has no problem putting away.

2) Smooth 3-pt Shot

Ennis averaged 40% from the 3-pt line in Australia in his rookie year and when you watch him shoot you can tell he’s got a sweet stroke. Just listen as the ball goes through the net as he put up 29 against Brooklyn in the D-League.

3) 2way Play

In his time with the Perth Wildcats, James Ennis was known as a good defender with good ball instincts. Though he may gamble at times in the passing lanes, it pays off on the breakaway where he looks to be a natural finisher. Plus a good rebounder as he averaged 6.7 a game. Check out the steal and the 360 slam in the video below.

4) Plays with a chip on his shoulder

As someone who believed he should have been an NBA player last year, he is focused to come back and showed the Heat what they were missing on last year. Also being picked 50th in the draft and coming from a small school, he definitely has a lot of people to prove wrong.

5) He has James in the name

That’s gotta count for something right? All kidding aside, James Ennis is poised to make an impact on the Heat this year and don’t be surprised Heat fans when this kid breaks out. He still has a ways to go with ball handling and post defense, but being on the Heat and having access to our world class coaching staff should get him ready to contribute in a major way.
